HVIII Brand Goods is a lifestyle apparel brand created by strength and conditioning expert, three-time Highland Games world champion, and overall badass Matt Vincent. HVIII Brand Goods is based on a very simple philosophy: Turn negativity into positive results. HVIII (sound it out: H+Roman Numeral 'VIII') is a strong term that many will find negative. Good. So do they.

“I refuse to not get better. It is not an option. I will make the sacrifices necessary to be the best. This attack on the self is necessary because if I don’t train everyday with the intention of destroying the old me, then I’m missing something.” This is the fire Matt feels, that he wants you to feel. This is the fire, the hate, the motivation for improvement.

Evolution of an Icon

When we designed the first version of the cross pistols for HVIII, it was never meant to be used as a logo mark. That was 2015. The cross pistols were taken from a detail of the railing of the bridge in Lake Charles, near where Matt Vincent grew up. Since then the mark has become an icon in the fitness industry. You never know where a simple interesting idea could take you.
In 2020 when Matt came to us to create a full brand identity system for HVIII, we knew exactly where to start. We simplified the cross pistols shape to create a composition that is both memorable and impactful. The familiarity of the shapes allowed us to simplify the mark to its most essential visual distinguishers. The result is a perfect evolution of an icon.
